RARE ACHAEMENID IRON CURVED DAGGER
C. 550 BC–330 BC. Achaemenid. This beautiful iron dagger comprises a single sided, curved blade with an integral handle with a recurved pommel. The Achaemenid Empire (the first Persian empire) was an ancient empire founded by Cyrus the Great and stretching from the Balkans and Eastern Europe to the Indus Valley and covering 5.5 million square kilometres at its height. This empire is also famous for being the antagonist of the Greek city states during the Greco-Persian wars. This beautiful spear head embodies the need for these ancient Persians to be armed and ready in order to survive and thrive. Good condition; on a custom-made stand. Size: L:425mm; 200g. Provenance: Property of a central London Ancient Art Gallery; previously obtained from a British private collection formed in the 1980s.
