RARE ANTIQUE PHOTO PORTRAITS OF RUSSIAN LOCALS

A set of seven vintage cartes de visite perhaps the most ubiquitous form of nineteenth century photography. The 7 cabinet photo cards are depicting male and female Russians. From the late 1850s through the latter half of the century, these economical keepsakes circulated en masse and spurred a veritable “cartomania”. Some hand painted. Gelatin silver printed are stamped with "Mochulsky" on verso. Circa 1870s. Works from this artists are part of the collection of the MET Museum in New York. Highly collectible items.
