RARE COACH CLOCK WITH ALARM
Augsburg ca. 1700/1710. The movement signed Jacob Mayr (maître 1672-1712) and numbered 678.
Pierced silver, engraved with scrolls and tendrils, birds and mascarons. Silver-plated, engraved dial and fine, gilt bezel. Central disc for the alarm. Fine, gilt movement with verge escapement, striking the 1/4-hour on bell. Alarm on bell. Winding with fusee and chains. Spindle bridge, engraved with scrolled leaves, and pierced. Later, leather-covered case, decorated with silver platelets, 19th century. Outer housing missing. Movement, may require servicing.
Diameter ca. 10 cm, thickness ca. 5 cm.
Jacob Mayr was born around 1648 and was listed as a master craftsman from 1672 onwards. Many of his creations can be found in private collections, an astronomical clock by Jacob Mayr can be found in the British Museum.
