RARE - Early 20th century Moroccan Jewish headdress...

RARE - Early 20th century Moroccan Jewish headdress called Mehdor hiding the ears with long braids. The upper part consists of vertically juxtaposed tubes of wound silver wire. The forehead is adorned with an ornamental band of enamel cloisonné with yellow, blue and green filigree and surmounted by animal hair. Each quadrat has a square transparent glass paste in its centre. On the forehead hang spindles with rounded ends. On the nose there is a two-part garnish enamelled with orange, green and glass stones. The back is red velvet. The black woollen braids end with tassels of yarn. Similar headdresses can be seen in museums such as the Museum of Jewish Art in Paris and the Museum of Rabat. Moroccan Anti-Atlas. Region from Tiznit to Tahala.
