RARE FRENCH ROBERT SYSTEM 20 GA, DOUBLE SHOTGUN

SERIAL NUMBER 147 BARREL 27" CALIBER 20 GA, COMBUSTABLE. MANUFACTURED 1829-1840.Robert system shotgun with Damascus double barrels and center rib marked "Fusil Robert Bée à Paris", varnished English butt with butt plate with long forward tang, steel fittings engraved with foliage and republicans motifs, wide diamond checkered forearm . On the breech, there is a circular cartouche in which is marked: "Academy of French Industry, gold medal 1833". Action utilizes an ingenious breech system having an opening by lever located on the upper part of the butt and opening from rear to front. This is an evolution of the Pauly system which uses paper cartridges with a primer in the rear part. The firing is done by hammers acting from the bottom up and striking the primer. JA Robert, arquebusier in Paris from 1829 to 1840, is the inventor of the first system without external dogs. He proposed this weapon for military use. It was very successful in its civilian version for hunting. He had twice (1833 and 1834) the gold medal of the Academy of Industry. Interesting weapon by its system of firing and maneuvers which marks a stage of the transition towards the cartridge with pin and the generalization of the loading by the breech.
