The Loterie Royal de France was a raffle lottery operated by the French Royals, which legally abolished other lotteries and created a monopoly. The prize pool of money was backed by the Crown, an idea initially considered preposterous when proposed by the infamous Casanova, after his fleeing to France from Italy and engaging the Royal Court.
