RARE MINIATURE CUP Meissen, ca. 1725.
Egg-shaped cup with one handle. Painted in dark-brown, rust-red, and green. The inside rim and the handle decorated with an iron-red border of tendrils.
H 4.4 cm.
Rim and bottom restored.

Early Meissen landscape painting, especially by J.G. Höroldt, can be found e.g. on a service from 1721 for Maria Josepha, the daughter-in-law of Augustus the Strong, which is painted with courtly hunting scenes, likewise with iron-red (tendril) decoration on the handle (Pietsch, Johann Gregorius Höroldt, Leipzig 1996, pp. 28-31, Staatliche Porzellansammlung Dresden, Inv. Nos. PE 7733 and PE 645).
