An African Woman Waves to the Captain of a Departing American Sailing Ship. reverse glass oil painting, unsigned, circa 1820, she is dressed in a simple white skirt, bare-breasted, holding a comb, wearing a red bandana and a miniature portrait pendant (all gifts from the Captain, one assumes), tree and fortress in background, in black painted frame, OS: 16 1/2" x 12 1/2", SS: 13 1/2" x 9 1/2". Good condition.
