RARE VIKING ODIN ON HORSE AMULET
700-1100 AD, Viking Age. Rare bronze amulet depicting a highly stylised rider, Odin, on horseback; a suspension loop protrudes from Odin’s head. Odin, who can be identified on the basis of his beard, (picked out with careful incised decoration) was a major deity, who served as the god of wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet.
