RARE WATER PITCHER AND BASIN
RARE WATER PITCHER AND BASIN
Meissen, ca. 1740-45.
Pitcher shaped after a silver model. Basin depicting a landscape with an opulent border in the Japanese Imari style. The back of the basin featuring peony blossoms in underglaze blue and iron red. Underglaze blue sword mark and K, basin with modeler's number 54, impressed.
H pitcher 19.5 cm, L basin 31 cm.
Basin with restoration on the edge, handle with a hairline crack.
All the items with this decoration, known to date, must be part of a table service that has not yet been identified. The literature mentions a single water pitcher with a basin (Julia Weber, Stiftung Ernst Schneider 2000, Vol. II, p. 108), sold by Stuker in Berne in 1964. This is probably the pitcher on offer here.
