RARE WURFFLEIN SWINGING MONKEY SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

[ translate ]

This rare swinging target with the cast iron figure of a monkey on flat iron bar would have been an unusual feature in the early 20th century shooting gallery. Where multiple targets of the same or similar type would have filled the common spaces, this may have been the only one of its type swinging above the gallery and is very rare. No other examples are known. The figure retains rare original dark green paint on the body portion, facial features with a few interesting sunburst-like bullet strikes, and traces of white on the bullseye. Signed Wm Wurfflein, Philad 31 on front in cast lettering. Illustrated in many of Wurfflein's advertising materials, including his 1905 and 1913 Price Lists as number 31.

Pictured on page 46 of Sellers' book (Figure 3.11). This is the only example the Tuckers have seen or heard of in their 30 years of collecting.

Measures 26 x 6.5 inches, excluding stand.

We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.
Condition Report: Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear of the rare original paint as expected.
