RAU & TODT CALIFORNIA BOWIE KNIFE.
Circa 1870-1880 Rau & Todt California Bowie knife and scabbard. Knife is 12 - 1/2” overall with an 8” clip point blade and a 4" sharpened false edge. Ricasso is marked "RAU & TODT / S. F. CAL." 1/4" wide at the base of the spine with a width of 1 - 1/4". Hilt has robust elk stag scales held by three brass pins. Slightly tapered tang from the iron crossguard to pommel. Russet brown leather sheath with brass furniture may be period replacement. CONDITION: Very good. Heavily cleaned blade with edge sharpening. Older cleaned light pitting concentrated on the guard and ricasso only. Blade is tight to handle with no wobble. Blade Length: 8" Overall Length: 12 - 1/2"
