Daphne du Maurier's gripping 1938 novel was made into a film in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock. It was Hitchcock's first project in America, and the first that he made whilst under contract with David O. Selznick. The film stars Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, and was nominated for eleven Oscars, winning with Best Picture and Cinematography.
