[REI DE ESPANHA] I PRIMI CONTI DI SAVOIA, RICERCHE STORICHE. TORINO, Fratelli Bocca Librai di S.M. MDCCCLXXXVII. - SAVIO, Sac. Fedele.
In-8º of 90 pages. Luxury and elaborate binding with the Arms of Principe Amedeo di Savoia, Duke of Aosta, who was King of Spain between 1870 and 1873. Amadeu I de Saboia (1845–1890), known as Duke of Aosta, elected by the Spanish Cortes after the deposition of Isabel II, his short reign was troubled, marked by strong opposition, political instability and conflicts such as the Carlist War, leading him to abdicate and return to Italy. He was the only Savoia to be King of Spain.
On the half-title page is the author’s dedication to S.A.R. in sepia ink.
It should be noted that, although the binding is not signed by the binder, we attribute it to Giovanni Tarditi of Turin. There is a signed copy in Italy in the Biblioteca Turinense with the following shelfmark: Reg. Margherita Lt-f-57.
Spine with 6 compartments, with small royal crowns stamped in gold. Front cover with a panel of finely interlaced tools, of great precision, with the Arms of the Savoias in the form of a super-libros, with a very rare crown, as it has a ducal coronet and a royal crown!
Edges of the leaves gilt and burnished. Headcaps tooled in gold with an elegant vegetal tool. Endpapers in gold paper of romantic style. The entire binding is a piece of pure art in chagrin leather of extremely fine workmanship, red in colour.
VERY VALUABLE COLLECTOR’S PIECE.
