Six cards, each with two small and one large rifleman buttons. In 1861, the US Army decided to combine all horse-mounted soldiers into one branch of the service, and the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen became the 3rd US Cavalry. The Mounted Riflemen thus passed into history.
