ROBERT FABE (AMERICAN, 1917-2004), Landscape with Birds and Bare Tree
Watercolor and ink on paper by Robert Fabe (American, 1917-2004), depicting an expansive rural landscape beneath an overcast sky. In the foreground, a flock of black crows takes flight around a gnarled, leafless tree overlooking a blue stream. The midground features a rolling agricultural field dotted with haystacks and a modest farmhouse settled against mist-veiled hills. Executed with fluid atmospheric washes and delicate graphic brushwork typical of mid-20th century American regionalism. Signed Robert Fabe in dark ink at the lower right. Presented in a molded wood frame with a gilt and green-accented finish under glass, retaining a vintage framer's label from Suder's Art Store on the reverse.Frame: 22 x 17 in.
Condition
The mat exhibits noticeable toning, foxing, and water staining along the margins. The watercolor sheet shows mild age toning, with colors remaining clean and distinct. The wooden frame has scattered edge wear, light scuffing, and minor gilt loss; the protective paper backing on the reverse is torn and water stained. Unexamined out of frame.
