ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE
1946-1989
KEN AND TYLER

gelatin silver print, flush-mounted, the Estate of Robert Mapplethorpe stamp, signed and dated by Michael Ward Stout, Executor, in ink, and with title, date, edition '6/10' and '[MAP] 1593' in pencil on the reverse, framed, Ginny Williams Collection and Robert Miller Gallery, New York, labels on the reverse, 1985 (Marshall, p. 151)
19¼ by 15⅛ in. (48.9 by 38.4 cm.)

Condition Report:
This photograph, on paper with an eggshell texture and slight sheen, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination in raking light, the following are visible: a 4-inch horizontal, hairline scratch in the upper corner and a 1-1/2-inch hairline scratch in the upper right corner, neither of which appears to break the emulsion; and two small white fingerprints in the lower right quadrant near the edge. The margin corners are bumped.

On the reverse of the mount, in addition to the Estate stamp, with the title, date, edition, and MAP number, the following is written in an unidentified hand in pencil: '4S', 'N' [circled]', and 'RMG M9105.008-C.'

In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
