Painted circa 1920.

Condition Report:
Original canvas. There are areas of craquelure in the upper-left quadrant and near the centre of the composition. Also some faint traces of paint separation underneath the loaf of bread, which appear stable; otherwise the work appears in good overall condition.

Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish. There appear to be small flecks of retouching along the lower edge and below the loaf of bread. Also some retouchings along the left edge, mainly around the book; also some retouching in the upper-left corner. A couple of other minor spots of retouching in the centre of the upper and right edges.

Held in a gilt plaster frame.
