[ translate ]

Jeune Femme aux Fleurs. Signed lower right. Verso signed, titled, inscribed and dated 4-63. Measuring 39.50 x 29.50 in. Unframed. Will need Cleaning. Note: Roger Crusat, French abstractionist artist, born in Roussillon, Provence, (1917-94) moved to Paris, attended Beaux Art in Paris. Worked and painted in Montmartre. He became known as the "Catalan painter of Montmartre". Crusat exhibited at many of the same Salons as the post-impressionists and expressionists. Salon des Independants was co-founded by Georges Seurat. Crusat exhibited at the Salon for many years. Degas had only one exhibition during his lifetime, and it was at the Galerie Durand Ruel in Paris. Gauguin had also exhibited his Tahitian paintings. Crusat's works were exhibited there in 1955. Later in 1956, art critics noticed him because of his unusual subject: waterpipes. Crusat believed they conveyed life like arteries to the body. For this he won a very prestigious prize, le Prix Populiste.
