Roland Clark (American, 1874-1957) Drypoint Etching Roland Clark "Little Bay Broadbill'', 1923, signed in pencil lower right by the artist. Professionally framed and matted. The image size is 15 1/2" x 10 1/2" overall framed size 24 1/2"x20 1/2"x1 1/2". Weight 3 pds. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. Roland Clark is known for his oiling paintings of sporting scenes and wildlife. He was raised in the marshlands of the Long Island Sound where he hunted waterfowl and had the opportunity to study under J. Carroll Beckwith at the Art Students League. By the suggestion of art dealer Philip Suval, Clark began experimenting with drypoint – which soon became his principal medium. Clark alternated time in his studio with extensive traveling on hunting and shooting trips. Clark went on to publish several books discussing his experiences and incorporating his artwork. In 1938, Clark was selected to create a Federal Duck Stamp Design.
