ROLEX. A VERY FINE AND RARE STAINLESS STEEL MANUAL WIND CHRONOGRAPH BRACELET WATCH
Model: Cosmograph Daytona "Paul Newman"
Reference: 6262/6239
Date: Purchased 15th April, 1972
Movement: 17-jewel manual wind
Dial: Cream
Case: Tonneau form, screw down case back, No. 2552145
Strap/Bracelet: Stainless steel Oyster link
Buckle/Clasp: Stainless steel folding clasp, signed
Signed: Case, dial, and movement
Size: 36mm
Accompaniments: Maker's presentation box, guarantee, instruction manual and original purchase receipt
In the early 1960s, Rolex manufactured a special dial to the Cosmograph Daytona model known as the exotic dial. It was then renamed as the "Paul Newman" dial by collectors after the American actor wore one in his racing film "Winning" and appeared on the cover of a popular Italian magazine. These dials were either black with white sub dials and seconds track, or they were in cream with black sub dials and seconds track.

While all versions of the Cosmograph Daytona feature contrasting dial and sub dials, the "Paul Newman" dial version is one of Rolex's most distinctive designs and sought after today.

The present example is a 6262/6239: the reference 6262 on the case and 6239 on the inside caseback with the correct pump pushers and stainless steel bezel. Accompanied with its original Rolex guarantee, presentation box, manual and original purchase receipt, this current lot represents the rare opportunity to acquire a highly desirable model.
