Daytona, Ref. 16523
A Stainless Steel and Yellow Gold Chronograph Wristwatch with Bracelet, Circa 1995

Dial: champagne
Caliber: cal. 4030 automatic, 31 jewels
Case: stainless steel and yellow gold, screw-down back

After the first generation of manually-wound Daytona chronograph watches, Rolex introduced a new family of automatic Daytona models in 1988. The movement tasked to power the watches, the Caliber 4030 was a highly modified version of the Zenith El Primero automatic chronograph movement. The Daytona 16523 was the two-tone stainless steel and yellow gold (officially named Rolesor by the brand) edition of the “El Primero Daytona” lineup. The watch features a stainless steel case topped with an 18k yellow gold bezel and furnished with an 18 karat yellow gold winding crown and chronograph pushers. The Daytona 16523 also brings together both metals on the Oyster bracelet with 18k yellow gold center links framed by stainless steel ones. A classic sports watch in a classic Rolex metal combination, the “Zenith Daytona” is one of the most famous and important chronographs in modern watchmaking history.

Condition Report:
This ref. 16523 Daytona has a serial number engraving that corresponds to an estimated production date of 1995. The original tritium dial is in exceptional condition, and the luminous material on its hour markers is still white in color and has not yet started to develop a patina. The watch and bracelet are in excellent overall condition and free from significant marks and damage.

Sotheby’s Watches Department is pleased to offer Condition Reports to potential purchasers. A Condition Report is an opinion describing the lot in more detail with regard to, but not limited to the general condition, quality of the watches and/or other relevant information.
