This model was first created in 1954 for Pan Am Airlines (Pan American), to enable pilots to track two different time zones at once through just a quick glance at the dial. The reason that this model of Rolex watch is named after a cartoon character rather than a fizzy drink (the Rolex Pepsi, for example) is that the colour scheme of this particular GMT-Master II model is similar to the costume of the comic book DC superhero, Batman; his outfit is a combination of a black suit and a dark blue cape, and the colouring of the dial of this watch is similarly dark hued, hence the name of 'Rolex Batman'. Our model, the Rolex Batman GMT-Master II 116710BLNR was launched in 2013, and was replaced in 2019 by the reference 126710BLNR; this next version was the first time that Rolex created a two-colour bezel entirely in a ceramic material, thanks to innovative technologies and new manufacturing techniques. The third variant of this model known as the 'Batgirl' was launched in 2021 with the reference 126710BLNR-003 - the difference is that in the bracelet the Rolex GMT Batman uses an 'Oyster' design bracelet whereas the Batgirl comes with a 'Jubilee' design bracelet.Click here to share:
