Raymundo Vasconcellos de Aboim entered the Naval Academy on May 1, 1915, completing the midshipman course on November 1, 1918. On August 15, 1919, he carried out the pioneer flight of the Squadron's Air Mail, inaugurating the service created by the Navy on that same day. year. He graduated on February 11, 1920.
Soon after graduating, he was promoted to first lieutenant, serving at the School itself as an assistant in the Structure Workshops for almost a year, from April 23, 1921 to July 24, 1922, when he was sent to England to take the engineering course. postgraduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, becoming the first Brazilian and South American aeronautical engineer.
At the Naval Aviation School he also served in the Bombardment Squadron, from September 8, 1924 to December 21 of the same year. From January 4, 1926 to October 30, 1928 he was commander of the Fighter Squadron. From October 31, 1928 to September 10, 1930, he was an instructor at the Artificer and Squadron Commander Course at the Naval Aviation Center. He was also Chief of the Administrative Division of the Aviation Center, from September 11, 1930 to November 13 of the same year, and served in the Directorate of Naval Aeronautics from December 17, 1930 to January 19, 1932.
On August 28, 1946, he assumed the position of Director General of Air Force Material, where he remained until 1951. During this period, more precisely in 1948, he was promoted to air brigadier. On June 3, 1960, he was elevated to air lieutenant brigadier, and finally on May 27, 1964, promoted to Air Marshal.
