A stunning 21.5 ct gold ring boasting a carnelian intaglio of Hippocampus with a winged Eros, made in an extremely stylised manner typical of the Middle Empire period. The ovoid gem is held in place with a raised bezel in the centre of a wide frame. Note how the warm shimmer of the gold intensifies the red hue of the carnelian; round hooped with "D" section. This piece has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements.
