Roosevelt here offers condolences to Mrs. Clearwater on the death of her husband, Judge Alphonse T. Clearwater of Kingston, New York: "Judge Clearwater was a dear friend of mine and I shall miss him keenly." Both Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt were frequent correspondents with Judge Clearwater.
