[ translate ]

Property from a Private Texas Collection
RUDOLF ERNST
Austrian
1854 - 1932
THE PALACE GUARDS

signed R. Ernst and dated 90 (lower left)
oil on panel
25 by 31¾ in.
63.5 by 80.6 cm

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: Not examined out of the frame. This work is on a cradled panel. The cradle may date to the panel. The panel is flat. The paint layer is stable and in beautiful condition. It is slightly dirty at present, but very attractive nonetheless. The varnish is mostly even, except for a spot or two on the right edge. There has been no weakness or abrasion to the paint layer. The only retouches are a couple of spots in the top of the columns in the upper left, and a few spots around the extreme edges. The work could be carefully cleaned, but it could also be hung as is.

"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
