RUSSIAN JEWELLED GOLD and SILVER-MOUNTED CHARKA SHAPED AS A BIRD
Charka has rounded form, with cabochon red stone eyes, the nephrite beak set with a silver-mounted redstone cabochon, with silver-gilt claw feet, gilt interior. Marked 20A, which means 20 Moscow Artel, 1908-1917 years. Moscow jewelry artels emerged as a new form of collective craft and business management in 1908. They were primarily formed by graduates of the Stroganov School and former employees of the city's jewelry factories. Upon retirement, Fyodor Ruckert bequeathed equipment, machinery, and tools to the labor collective with the condition of continuing the business. Skilled independent jewelers from Ovchinnikov, Khlebnikov, and Fabergé also joined these artels. Many companies, even after 1908, continued to place orders and actively collaborate with their former masters, whose products bore their own trademarks. In total, up to 20 Moscow artels specializing in silverware are known. Fabergé himself frequently placed orders with these artels.
