RUSSIAN ICON MOTHER OF GOD IN SILVER ENAMEL OKLAD
An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon of Theotokos, Mother Of God Vladimirskaya, the earliest known surviving and one of the most revered miraculous icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. A mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on wood panel. Inscribed upper right and left and to the center right and left. The icon features an embossed 84 gilt Silver riza or oklad, engraved traditional detailed patterns and covered with polychrome foliage, floral, and scrollwork patterns made in the Cloisonne technique, and encrusted with Ruby stones. Marked with a Russian Silver standard hallmark, makers marks, and other assay marks. Circa: the late 19th century. Antique Russian Religious Items and Collectibles.
