RUSSIAN SAINT NICHOLAS ICON 14K GOLD SILVER OKLAD

An antique Russian Orthodox 14K Gold icon of Saint Nicholas, traditionally depicted as a bishop delivering a blessing and holding a book of Gospels. A mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden board. The icon is overlaid with a 14K Gold and 88 Gilt oklad embellished with cabochons, gemstones and 88 Silver halo and adornments. Marked with a Moscow 1908 to 1917 hallmark, 56 Gold Russian standard, Cyrillic makers mark IS for Ivan Sazikov, and an 88 Silver standard hallmark for applied silver embellishments.
