Rabbi Shimon Grunfeld (1882-1930), known as Maharshag, responsum addressed to Rabbi Yaakov
Tzvi Weiss [or Weissman] (1843-1889) – Rabbi of Szoboszlo.

Rare long responsum, all in the handwriting of the Maharashag and bearing his signature, discussing
the release of an aguna on the basis of testimony of a non-observant Jewish doctor.

Rabbi Shimon Grunfeld, disciple of his father Rabbi Yehuda – Rabbi of Szenhimihaly, and of
Maharam Schick, leading Hungarian halachic authority, known by the acronym ‘Maharshag’. Dayan
in Munkascz and from 1907 successor to his father as Rabbi of Szenhimihaly. Author of Shaalos
U’Teshuvos Maharshag (2 vols.).

Rabbi Yaakov Tzvi Weiss [or Weissman] – son of Rabbi Avraham Weissman – Rabbi of Haidu-
Szoboszlo and son-in-law of the famous chassidic rebbe Rabbi Shmuel Frenkel of Darag. Disciple of
the Kol Aryeh. Succeeded his father as Rabbi of Szoboszlo (1879). Revered for his saintly character.
