Dimensions of the oil painting: 54 x 73 Unframed Rafael Griera Calderón was circumstantially born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1934. Later, from 1942 to 1960 he resided in Olot, where his father had a workshop of religious imagery. He learned to perform all the techniques related to this art, and thanks to this he developed a great artistic activity. He also studied at the Escola de Belles Arts d'Olot for a short period of time. At the age of twelve he obtained his first prize at the Centre Catòlic. At the age of eighteen he was part of the group "Cràter d'Art", together with various artists who used to meet periodically. He was influenced by the painter Vermeer, from Delft, and by Anglada Camarassa, whom he met while he was doing his military service in Palma de Mallorca. He made trips all over Spain to sell the saints of the workshop.
