Stairway to sky. Surrealist acrylic on paper, signed "Oblinski" in the lower right corner, matted and framed under glass, overall 22" x 19". Society of Illustrators label verso on frame backing.

Surrealist painter, magazine illustrator and set-designer Rafal Olbinski was born in 1943 in Poland where he graduated from the Architectural Department of Warsaw Politechnical School. In the early 1980s, he emigrated to the United States.

He draws us into a different universe, and forces us to use our eyes to participate in a marvelous world which is the true dimension of dreams."

Since 1985, Olbinski has been a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 2002, Olbinski designed stage settings for The Philadelphia Opera Company's production of Don Giovanni.
