Raoul Dufy (French, 1877 - 1953)

Scene of sailboats and steamboat in harbor. Pencil drawing on watermarked Arches MBM watercolor paper, signed in pencil lower right, floated on cream backing with matching mat in a gilt frame, overall 26" x 30 ¼". Accompanied by a laminated photograph of the drawing with the inscription verso, translated from French, reading "I, undersigned Andre Robert, having been the assistant of the painter Raoul Dufy, certified to have closely examined the original drawing in lead pencil measuring 55 x 44 (cm), [measurements do not represent this photograph], that this drawing is indeed an authentic work of Raoul Dufy" signed and dated by Andre Robert, Paris April 23, 1970. Certificate of Authenticity from Fanny Guillon-Laffaillem ti also authenticated the drawing, is availble to buyer.

Fanny Guillon-Laffaille is a Raoul Dufy's expert, the author of the catalog raisonné of watercolors and drawings by Raoul Dufy, and co-author of the catalog raisonné of paintings by Raoul Dufy with his father Maurice Laffaille. She is currently working on the catalog raisonné of paintings, watercolors and drawings by Raoul Dufy and will include this drawing in it.
Consignor submitted two apprasials of this drawing, one from Fred Rash Sr. Gallery of Newport Beach, CA dated 1983 and one from The Bonfoey Company of Cleveland, OH dated 2000, which are available upon request.

Condition: Small tear repair at top edge left quarter (tape verso and slightly visible to front), handling soils and creases throughout, slight staining to lower left quarter. Paper is tipped to mat board at top corners.
