Rare 17th C. Italian Steel Tilting Lance, Thoresby Hall

Western Europe, probably Italian, ca. 1600 CE. A rare, huge tilting lance, a wooden pole arm weapon capped by a sharp steel point with long langets studded with nails affixing it to the pole. A thin steel handle is near the base of the pole, allowing the carrier to thrust it with greater power. This style of weapon was used for both jousting (the "tilt" is the barrier between the two opposing jousters) and for practice sessions. Size: 2.7" W x 92" H (6.9 cm x 233.7 cm)
