Rare 2nd Version Meek No.44 Trout Reel
The Meek No.44 reel is thought to have been introduced late in 1899, with the introduction of the first model German silver, single action reel. This second version, with a 2 1/4" diameter and 1" wide spool has the early "flat back", with features that include a finely beaded sliding click switch that works perfectly. The counter balanced handle is straight, with an ivory grasp, plain counter-balance weight and knurled handle screw. The side plates each have a single band of knurling on the rim, and marked on the rear plate is "B.F. Meek & Sons Louisville, KY - No. 44" and personalized name of a previous owner "A.C. Washburne", on this serial No.2851 reel in all original condition.
