Rare Certified BG-222 Grateful Dead Benefit Poster

In January 1970—while on tour in New Orleans—the Grateful Dead played the opening nights at The Warehouse, which became the main venue for rock music in the area. Rock history was made at The Warehouse: Jim Morrison’s last concert with The Doors on December 12, 1970. On January 31, 1970, local police raided the hotel where the Grateful Dead was staying and arrested 19 people for possession of various drugs. This famous drug bust is immortalized in the song, Truckin,’ and while most of the charges were eventually dismissed, those against sound engineer Owsley Stanley—who was also facing charges in California for manufacturing LSD—were not. This poster promoted a benefit concert for the Dead in the wake of the arrests, and many well-known bands came to the Dead’s aid.
