Rare Egyptian Middle Kingdom Polychrome Amphoriskos
Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 11th to 13th Dynasty, ca. 2130 to 1649 BCE. A rare example of a wheel-thrown Nile silt clay amphoriskos of a charming conical form with a tapered base, an inverted piriform body with a sloped shoulder, a pair of pierced lug handles, and a flared rim with a thick lip. The vertically burnished vessel is first covered in orange-red slip that creates a ground atop which is displayed a central white-painted bar enclosed with a pair of thin maroon stripes. Size: 3.25" W x 4.625" H (8.3 cm x 11.7 cm); 5.625" H (14.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to base, body, handles, and rim, with chipping and light fading to areas of original pigment, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and excellent. Nice earthen deposits and great traces of original pigment throughout.
