Rare Guerrero Mezcala Greenstone Warrior Figure Pendant
Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 200 BCE. A squat yet formidable warrior figure that is hand-carved from soft green-hued stone with cream and wheat inclusions. The attenuated figure stands atop a pair of delineated legs and holds both arms against the sides of his broad abdomen. His triangular head exhibits large eyes incised above smooth cheeks, a wide mouth, tab-shaped ears, and a form-fitting helmet topped with a curved crest. The back of the crest has a biconically drilled suspension hole that suggests how this was perhaps worn as a figural pendant. Size: 1.7" W x 2.8" H (4.3 cm x 7.1 cm); 4.9" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition Report: Minor chips to top of head behind helmet as well as right foot, with light pitting in scattered areas, and softening to some incised details, otherwise intact and very good. Great surface smoothness throughout.
