Rare / Intricate Celtic Bronze Belt

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $1200**

Central Europe, Celtic people, ca. 1st millennium BCE. Thirty-one vertical bronze decorative strips, each cast into a form of repeated discs and bars, with a decorative clasp in two halves. These have been strung together using a modern cord, with modern cylindrical beads used as spacers to form the original belt shape. Celtic warriors were frequently buried with belt sets and long spears, that, alongside deliberately bent swords, had been ritually destroyed before being placed into the grave with cremated remains. For the bronze of this example to survive in such nice condition is remarkable! Size: 25.15" W x 2.15" H (63.9 cm x 5.5 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#135143
Condition Report: The bronze belt components have been restrung using modern cord and beads. Two of the vertical bars are in two pieces and two others have been repaired from two pieces. A few others have tiny losses. One end of the clasp has also been repaired from two pieces.
