This Satsuma is carrying the Shimazu family crest from Kagoshima and probably created by Riyozan. Each medallion of the 4 sides depicting 11 or 12 Buddhist monks clad in gorgeous robes. At the head of every and each monk delicately portrait . There is halo. At the top of the vase we see the cross signifying the crest of the Shimazu family as well as the chrysanthemum , signifying the Imperial family and 2 other important family crests.
