A very special variety of quartz, also known as Yellow Hematoid Quartz or Golden Healer, is a silicon dioxide crystal with iron oxide coating beneath or between the crystal layers. Golden Healer Quartz is found in gorgeous colors ranging from light yellow to lemon to yellow-green, more orange shades. To the touch they often have an oily texture, almost greasy, and are often very refractive, showing rainbows within the structure. Golden Healer Quartz was first dug by miners in Arkansas in the 1980s, although the highest percentage of this crystal was mined from a location in Wales at the Celtic Quartz Mine. Golden Healer Quartz differs from tangerine or lemon quartz in that they are affected by acid baths, and they are naturally occurring and not artificial or manipulated.
