Rare Rockingham 'Protection to Industry' Pitcher
Rare Rockingham-Glazed Pottery 'Protection to Industry' Pitcher, Possibly Rochester, New York, Second Half Nineteenth Century. Molded in high relief on either side with a raised arm holding a hammer, above a tablet inscribed "PROTECTION TO AMERICAN INDUSTRY," the spout molded with a large leaf above a small panel inscribed "EVERITT," leaf and branch handle, the whole covered in mottled and streaked light brown glaze. H: 8.875 in., W: 9 in., D: 8.25 in. A similar pitcher, inscribed "EVERITT/ ROCH.," suggests this mold was used in Rochester, NY, possibly at the Burger manufactory.
