Rare Scythian Iron Akinakes Sword

Western Asia and Siberia, Scythian culture, ca. 6th to 4th century BCE. A lengthy forged-iron sword called an akinakes (or acinaces) with a sturdy handle, a T-bar pommel, and a lobate hand guard with incised mirrored spirals. The blade has a narrow profile with smooth faces and sharpened edges that gradually taper to a pointed tip. While bronze versions of akinakes are far more uncommon than their iron counterparts, finding an intact example like this one is quite rare. Size: 17.25" L x 2.1" W (43.8 cm x 5.3 cm).

Provenance: private Tennessee, USA collection, purchased at Auctions Imperial, Nevada, USA in 2017
