Rare Talbot Model 53 German Silver Casting Reel
A handmade reel stamped "Talbot Reel & Mfg. Company, K.C. Mo, U.S.A. - No. 53" with a 2" diameter and 1 1/2" wide spool. Serial numbered 6058, this example is jeweled with two sapphire bearings in each bearing cage and features a sliding click switch on the face plate that works perfectly. Advertised in 1910 by Abercrombie & Fitch, these reels were the most expensive in the Talbot line for the year at $50.00 each, a tidy sum for the time. Made with "new" style spiral and non-friction gears, this example has an "S" shaped counter balance handle and full-length foot.
