[ translate ]

Details: Rare Torsion Clock 400-DAY ANNIVERSARY CLOCK JOHN WANAMAKER MOON PHASE CLOCK 1953 Wurthner Western Vintage Collectible Decorative

Maker: Wurthner Western for John Wanamaker

History of Maker: John Wanamaker was a large department store in New York and Pennsylvania which imported clocks from German manufacturers until around the time the New York store closed in 1954. Approximately 1000 clocks were made especially for the company by the German manufacturer Wurthner Western. Wurthner made 400-Day clocks from 1951 to 1957.

Country of Origin: Germany

Year of Manufacture: 1953

Model: Moon Phase

Serial Number: N/A

Clock Type: 400-Day

Approximate Height: 12" with glass dome

Model History & Features: This rare clock is one of only 1000 models produced exclusively for the John Wanamaker department store. The grandfather clock style dial makes this clock stand out. Unfortunately for Wanamaker, sales of this clock were slow and it never functioned quite as well as intended because the mainspring could not handle the extra effort required to rotate the moon on the clock's face. This only adds to the scarcity of these clocks today. The clock also features an automatic pendulum locking device and an adjustable locking bracket above the pendulum which is often missing from other surviving versions of this model.

Running?: Untested

Condition: This clock is composed of 100% original parts and includes a key. The clock lacks its suspension spring [Horolovar spring .004(.102mm)] and needs cleaning and servicing to function properly. Overall the clock is in very good condition.
Condition / Notes: The condition of this clock as stated above is accurate at the time of cataloging. The clock may require some adjustment, tuning, or minor maintenance upon receipt.

The stated shipping cost in this listing will apply only to addresses within the continental 48 states. Within those parameters, the shipping cost for this lot will be: $39.50
