IMPORTANT HARRY S. TRUMAN SIGNED “DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN” PHOTOGRAPH WITH HUMOROUS INSCRIPTION – RARE

A notable three-piece Harry S. Truman group spanning his presidency, highlighted by an iconic “Dewey Defeats Truman” photograph personally inscribed and hand-signed by Truman, recalling one of the most famous moments in American political history.

Also included is a Harry S. Truman Typed Letter Signed, one page, dated July 26, 1949, on official White House letterhead, addressed to Mark Edwin Andrews of Houston, Texas, Truman’s former Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Andrews had written in support of David Press for a possible federal judgeship, and Truman responds that Press’s abilities “will be considered in the event additional judgeships are created for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.” Truman closes with personal regards to Andrews and his wife and signs boldly, “Harry Truman.” Andrews served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy under Truman from January 1948 to February 1949.

The group is completed by a White House card bearing a Truman signature, which we believe to be Secretarial.

Condition: The “Dewey Defeats Truman” photograph is printed on heavy-weight photographic stock and is in excellent condition, with no actual folds or creases. The fold lines visible within the image were present on the earlier photograph from which this copy photograph was produced and are reproduced as part of the image. They are not physical folds in the photograph offered here. Truman's inscription and signature were subsequently applied by hand directly to this photographic print and are original.
