Rare, green tourmaline intaglio. Veiled bust of a roman matron,...
Rare, green tourmaline intaglio. Veiled bust of a roman matron, turned to the left. The face is characterized by classical profile, with full lips and round chin. The hair, which comes out of the veil, falls down in waves. The bust is draped. Wear marks and light internal cracks, due to burning, nevertheless the setting is intact. The rest of the gem shows a peculiar quadratic faceting. Interesting post-classical work, on an unusual type of stone. End of the 18th-beginning of the 19th century.
