Rare late Gothic coffer
Westphalia, beginning of the 16th century. An oak coffer clad with wrought iron applications, with a hinged lid. Ca. 87 x 191 x 72 cm. Some small losses of the wood and iron parts, some ageing and wear. (DOC)
The present coffer strongly resembles one in the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne (especially in the plinth area) but is somewhat smaller.
