Read & Watson Tall Case Clock

American, circa 1809. A tall case clock in cherry with cherry secondary having a broken arch pediment with inlaid rosettes and three turned finials. The bonnet with free standing columns flanking the original glass over a waist and box base with canted corners. The waist door with double-cyma curved top, edged with burled walnut inlay over the paneled base and French feet. The dial with original polychrome paint and gilding, signed Read & Watson. The movement seat board faintly in pencil signed "OR" on top and underside for (Orascus or Oliver Roberts, who also worked for Luman Watson) Sticker on inside of clock hand written inscription Read & Watson 1809. Original wooden works and parts. Provenance: Donna & the late Jan Shaffer, Cincinnati, Ohio, Garth Auction April 22 & 23 1994 featured lot! Literature: Nearly identical: James W.
